Johnny Wayne Tate, son of the late Leonard C. and Vanna Tate, died Wednesday, February 17, 2016. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Leonard S. Tate, a half-sister, Leslie T. Smith, and a step-brother, Mack Ridenhour.
Johnny was born April 14, 1936 in Lenoir City, TN. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1954 and moved to the Charlotte area in the early 1960’s after serving in the US Air Force. He had a successful career as a Master Plumber and taught plumbing classes at CPCC in Charlotte after his retirement. Johnny’s greatest passions in life, besides his wife of 45 years, Faye Brewer Tate, were motorcycle riding, fishing and Masonry. He was a competition fisherman and participated in several Bass Master Classics. He was a member of Newell Lodge #739, serving as Master in 2005, and a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elena Deen (Ronnie), two grandsons, Jeremy Deen and Ronnie Deen Jr., and three great grandchildren, all of Charlotte. He also has two special friends, Paula and Steve Wyatt, who have been comfort to him and Faye.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McEwen Funeral Services – Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262. Visitation will be Friday, February 19, 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Funeral services with a Masonic Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Derita Chapel starting at 11:30 AM. Interment will take place at Rachel Baptist Church, Roaring River, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565 or to Harris Hospice Unit, Presbyterian Hospital, 200 Hawthorne Ln., Charlotte, NC 28204 to whom the family is eternally appreciative for the care provided to Johnny.
