Johnny Brent St. Clair, Sr. of Simpsonville, SC, passed away Monday evening, August 7, 2023, surrounded by family. Born October 21, 1951, in Taylorsville, NC, he was the youngest son to the late Edward and Alta Shaver St. Clair.
John was born in Taylorsville and his family moved to Charlotte when he was 7 years old, where he graduated from North Mecklenburg High School and married his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Darwin. They were fortunate to have recently embarked on a European river cruise in celebration of their 50th anniversary (delayed two years due to Covid). John has always held a fondness for European architecture, and it seems fitting he was able to spend his last days exploring the Old World.
If you knew him, you knew he had an easy smile and light-hearted spirit. He was fun and silly and made for a great playmate even in his later years for his adoring grandchildren. He was loving and generous, and did I mention silly? He enjoyed music, playing the drums, playing Spades with his family, and he was very proud of his service in the US Navy. He had a big heart, was deeply loved, and will be missed.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and his oldest brother, Sam.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Geraldine St. Clair; his two children, Johnny St Clair Jr. (Allison) and Stephanie; his four grandchildren, Genevieve St. Clair, Gabriella St. Clair, Jaylin Pate, and Oscar Tyminski; his brother, Ray St. Clair (Ginny), and many other loving extended family members.
A Celebration of John's Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 14, 2023 at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. A visitation with refreshments will be held prior from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Burial will follow (approximately 3:00 pm) at Taylorsville City Cemetery, 537 1st Avenue Drive SE, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
