He was born July 21, 1944 in Batavia, Ohio, son of the late Frederick Skeen and the late Helen McGuire Skeen. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine Worth Skeen.
Mr. Skeen graduated from Batavia High School and attended Cumberland College and the University of Cincinnati where he studied Business Administration. John and Chris were married on February 20, 1965, and spent their early years of marriage in Georgetown, Ohio, where they had their daughter, Kelly in 1967 and son, John in 1970. They lived in Louisville, Kentucky, Cleveland, Ohio, and Cincinnati, Ohio, while he worked for Kelly Tires, ITT, and Owens Corning Fiberglass.
In 1978, the Skeens moved to Mint Hill, North Carolina, and joined Blair Road United Methodist Church where John and Chris were active members for the past 40 years. John was on the Administrative Council, Finance Committee, Building Committee, and a member and teacher of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class.
Mr. Skeen worked as a Salesman extraordinaire for Owens Corning Fiberglass as well as East Coast Metal Distributors until he retired to The Villages, Florida in 2007. While there, he enjoyed golf with his wife as well as many friends that they made during their time there. During their time in Florida, the Skeens enjoyed cruising in the Caribbean and visiting with Chris’s aunt and uncle, Marjie and Art Merten in Largo, Florida often.
John and his family traveled to the Outer Banks every year from July 1973 to 2013, for a vacation with lifelong friends, Jim and Mary Hamilton, and their children, Mike and Becky, of Murraysville, Pennsylvania.
John and Chris were die-hard Ohio State Buckeye football fans and enjoyed watching them play on television at the OSU alumni headquarters in Charlotte. They both volunteered their time with the club to help raise money for scholarships and set up watch parties. They also traveled to see them play in the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Big Ten Championship games as well as home games at “the shoe” in Columbus. “GO BUCS!”
John and Chris moved back to Mint Hill, North Carolina in 2012 to be close to their children and grandchildren while John took care of his beloved Chris in her final years.
John is survived by daughter, Kelly Skeen Eudy (Mark); and son, John McGuire Skeen (Heather). He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Bee (Robert).
