John “Paul” McCullough, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021.
A native of Corinth, Mississippi, Mr. John “Paul” McCullough was born to the late Bon Holland McCullough and Mary Sanders McCullough on March 1, 1929. He one of five brothers and the last to pass away. He was a graduate of Corinth High School Class of 1947, Hinds Junior College and Mississippi Southern College. He played football as tackle throughout his high school and college years. He was on the front page of the news paper for being one of the starters for Hinds Junior College. He was Mr. Corinth High his high school senior year. Mr. McCullough was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC where he also served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1955. He was involved in the Veteren’s Visually Impaired group where he made many wonderful friends over the years. He worked for Neptune Water Meter Company later known as Schlumberger as a Regional Sales Manager for over 30 years before retiring. He was sales manager of the year numerous. One of his famous stories included entering a business where the owner quickly told him, “I’m not interested. You need to leave!”. To which Paul responded, “How do you know I wasn’t going to give you something for free?”. This client in particular later became one of his biggest sales. He just had that bigger than life personality that everyone loved.
Paul was best known for being a true gentleman, honest and Godly man who referred to himself as the “Ole Warhorse”. He could light up a room with his smile and personality that would just draw anyone in. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. . He gave selflessly to anyone that needed help. His joy was truly found in bringing laughter to others and showing God’s unconditional love to anyone he came in contact with. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who left a beautiful legacy for many generations to come.
A few of his favorite things included bucket hats, praying on his knees after waking up, manicured nails, getting his hair cut with his buddies, playing golf, watching football, politics, John Wayne movies and making phone calls at his desk to all his friends to check on them and tell them his latest jokes. Everyone knew that his favorite outing was to McDonald’s for lunch, coffee and an apple pie. He also loved eating out with family and friends at Sunrise Restaurant. He really enjoyed his prayer group on Tuesdays and having lunch with the prayer group ladies afterward. He was known for giving out Bible tracks to the little children in order to tell them about Jesus which was so important to him.
Mr. McCullough was preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth Wrape McCullough and son John Mark McCullough. Brothers; Murray McCullough, David McCullough, Leonard McCullough and Jack McCullough.
Mr. McCullough is survived by his son Patrick Jay McCullough of Columbus, GA and daughter Shelley McCullough Beaudoin of Monroe, NC, son in law Ramone Beaudoin of Charlotte, NC, Grandchildren; Amber Tart and husband Joe Tart, Kaylea Beaudoin, Cameron Beaudoin and Austin McCullough. Great Grandchildren; Khloe Beaudoin, August Tart and Raleigh Tart.
