John graduated from Martinsville High School in 1956 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Richmond Professional Institute, of the College of William and Mary. He spent most of his career working in merchandising.
John married his high school sweetheart, Susan, on April 1, 1961 and they went on to have three children.
John loved to travel, and traveled to many different places around the world. However, some of his favorite trips were with his family to Sunset Beach, NC. John loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild and would often say, “children are God’s greatest blessing.” He was a long time member of St. Margaret Episcopal Church.
He is predeceased by his parents, John D. Martin, Sr. and Maxine Hogan Martin, and one sister, Sheila Martin Brooks.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Susan Field Martin, one son, John D. Martin III, two daughters, Liz Martin Peaseley (Walt) and Alice Martin Jordan (Tim), four granddaughters, Lucy Martin, Faith Peaseley Marin (Angel), Ann Peaseley Graves (Luke), and Isabel Peaseley, and one great-granddaughter, Amelia Marin.
A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, February 16 at McEwen Funeral Chapel, Pineville, and funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, February 17 at St. Margaret Episcopal Church, Waxhaw, NC.
