Mr. Mallard will lie in state from 10:00 until 12:00 P.M. Friday, December 30, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 P.M. at Sharon Memorial Park. The Rev. David Smith will officiate.
Born January 24, 1933 in Kinston, NC, Mr. Mallard was a son of the late Gordon Wesley Mallard and Leah Bizzell Mallard. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, where he spent 18 months in the Arctic Circle. Mr. Mallard retired from Ameristeel, formerly Florida Steel, and was a member of Kilgo United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Wesley Mallard, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bunn Mallard; son, Kevin Mallard of Mint Hill; daughter, Kendall Parker and her husband, Billy, of Matthews; two step-grandchildren, Will and Karen Parker; and brother-in-law, Joe Bunn of Mint Hill.
The family offers their most sincere appreciation to the Elliott Manor staff for the love and care shown to John.
