Working with Joel was such a pleasure!  Although it was only for a few years; I'm so glad to have had the time.  He really knew how to make people laugh and I smiled every time I saw him.  I enjoyed the stories he shared about his family and at the time the most important thing going on was his daughters wedding which he expressed such happiness about!  Saturday lunches from Anita's was my favorite!

My thoughts go out to his family and friends in this difficult time.  No words can express the sorrow I felt when I heard the news.  I hope knowing the joy he brought to others eases your pain just a little.  I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Barb and family,
It’s hard for me to express our shock and sadness of Joel’s passing. Joel and I both started at USAir in early 1990 and became friends on our first sheet metal job together! I will miss my domino and card partner from years past. We lost one of the rare great ones this Thursday and Joel you will be missed by Keri and I. RIP my brother from another mother. We will see you on the other side! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Barb, Jordan, Haylee and Logan. Love you all!

Joel and I worked together in Charlotte and Winston Salem. We commuted to Winston Salem from Charlotte for about 6 months. The stories he would tell during those long hours were hilarious! Joel had such a unique personality. He kept everyone laughing with his wit and humor. I would run into him occasionally in Charlotte until 97 and again when I returned to the station in 2003. Every time I saw him we would laugh and talk about the times we had together. Joel could light up a room like no other. So much fun to be around and I am happy to have known him. Joel and Barb made a great team and their daughters are beautiful. Joel was very proud of his family. My deepest sympathies to Barb, his daughters and his entire family. He will be missed greatly.

We will all miss Joel! We started our careers together at US Air commuted together to Philly and Winston Salem watch our young family's grow together.  Joel and Barb where like family. We will all miss Joel. We are so sorry for your loss.

It's been at least 12 years since I've seen Joel (as we knew him) since I left USAirways in 2011.  But I was told about his death today, and was able to very quickly recall a happy-go-lucky kinda guy who always seemed to be smiling and pretty carefree.
We mechanics usually have some funny stories to remember about each other, something that reveals an idiosyncracy, a weakness, a goofy blunder that's now overlooked with the passage of time and with the respect we afforded each other after being through so many similar and unique circumstances together.
I mostly remember that sly smile and clever gift he had for bringing out humor in so many situations.  Every once in awhile, he might get serious or even perturbed, but that was the rare occasion.  You were almost always in for a fun joke or a happy chat about whatever topic might be in the queue.  Good guy!
In my VRBO hosting experience, it's always spoken that "this guest would be welcome back to book my place any time ."
That's the kinda guy Joel was....always fun to hang with and always a welcome compadre to join in on whatever was going on.

I’m so sorry to hear this about Joel’s passing. Always had good times and fun at USAir and Phillip Morris with him. Good guy, great mechanic ! Gone way too soon, you will be missed . R.I.P. Brother !

We have you in our prayers, my heart is broken, Joel and I met in 1990 at the apartments, we fast became friends and golf buddies and true friends. Not sure how he kept me as a friend after I lost his dog (Dutches) while dog sitting, glad she came back, Joel would help anyone with anything, I enjoyed the time having a cold beer in the garage, the couple golf trips we did to pinehurst, Myrtle beach and Charleston, and all the rounds in the Charlotte area.To see Joel so happy when Jordan and Haylee were born was heartwarming, I am truly going to miss Joel and my texts. and dinners when I and at the Charlotte airport,  I am so sad he will never make my July party over the lake, he would never take a vacation day to come 😥.  
Joel you are a brother from another mother and you you are missed. Until I join you in heaven, keep the golf game ready.

I hadn’t seen Joel in probably 20 years (I left for UNITED airlines) but I can definitely say this, He was one of the good ones!!! RIP my old friend 

I remember when Barb met Joe—it was love at first sight.

"Aaron". One word,  alot of times over the past 4 years when I saw Joel at work,  was all he said to me. To which I would reply, "Joel, have a good night." We usually only saw each other at shift change  I cannot say we were buddies or anything like that but we had worked either with or around each other for over 30 years, you become more of a relative, or one brother out of 300. Joel was to me a sound person. Good sense of humor but never silly. Old fashioned and solid family man. A good guy. I'll miss our one word exchanges. Hopefully see each other on the other side in heaven.  Till then I'll just say, " Joel, have a good night "
