Jessie was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother, and wife, a loyal and loving friend, and was always proud to let others know that she was from Tarboro, North Carolina! She enjoyed membership in The Links, Inc. and The Girl Friends, Inc., expressed her love by cooking amazing meals, and was always guided by her unwavering faith.
An interesting and little known fact about Jessie is that she was an assistant medical librarian at the Duke University Medical School Library in Durham, North Carolina in 1963. While there, she met and befriended the school’s first Black medical student, Delano “Dell” Meriwether.
Jessie was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Eaglin (Jamison), her sweet sister Martha Parker Harvey and husbands Leo Eaglin, a Montford Point Marine, and Attorney Herman L. Taylor. In addition to her sister, Cynthia “Cindy” Strong, her daughter, Victoria Taylor, sons Victor Taylor and Gregory Eaglin, granddaughers Salena Taylor and Milan Taylor, and grandson Charles Jamison all mourn her passing, but also celebrate a life well-lived. “You will always be in our hearts, Mama/Nana. We love you to the moon and back!”
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Psalms 30:5
