“Mike”
Mr. Michael, 93, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on December 7, 2011 at Plantation Estates. He was born on July 25, 1918 in Burkeville, VA, a son of the late Agnes Ford Michael and Howell H. Michael, Jr.
Mike was raised in Roanoke, VA where he graduated from Jefferson High School. He then went to Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Va Tech) as a member of the military corps. He majored in Electrical Engineering and graduated in 1944. Mike was immediately commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After World War II, Mike joined Trimbell Electric and lived in several locations around the U.S. In 1947 he was transferred to Charlotte where he met and married Jean Fox. Trimbell was acquired by General Electric about this time where he spent the next 32 years. He was an early member of Carmel Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He also spent many hours in his wood working shop.
Mike is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Fox Michael; two sons, Howell H. Michael (Hal) and his wife Julie of Charlotte, NC and Jon F. Michael and his wife Patricia of Brentwood, TN; five grandchildren, Sarah Cunningham, David Michael, Erin Michael, Christopher Michael, and Jon Patrick Michael; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Michael Bohlig of Apex, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Rd., Charlotte, with the Reverend Josh Bowron officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be private.
