Bert was a great man and mentor. I was his trainee in the Norfolk VA store Military Circle. He always steered me in the right direction and always kept a positive confident demeanor. 
He was a veteran and always a friend.  He touched many lives in a good way and I am sure he will be missed by his family.

Bert and I worked in the same JCPenney district for several years.  I knew him to be a man of faith, a devoted family man, a professional business man who cared about others.  I was saddened to hear of his passing.  I am happy he had all of you (his family) in his life and his faith in Christ.  Bert was a southern gentleman.

Sorry to hear of Bert's passing, and your families loss. I served JCP at the Petersburg jcp  for 6 years . I did not know Bert but feel a relationship to him because of his 40 years of service. I also started 
with jcp in 1965 at Crossroads Mall Roanloke. va.

Nancy and family,
I am saddened by the passing of Bert. We were playmates. classmates and friends. We grew up as friends going to Dupont Elementary School in Hopewell. We played together as kids. His mother taught us how to swing a tennis racquet. I remember going to his house where his mother taught us how to type. We both played trumpet in the Hopewell High School band and we went to Virginia Tech together where we were in the Corps of Cadets, class of 1967. After college we only got to see each other at our high school reunions. I will miss Bert.

 I still think of Bert as a good friend, always polite and thoughtful and with an ever present sense of humor. We lost touch after Hopewell High School but saw one another from time to time at class reunions. He never failed to provide good company and with that in mind I cannot imagine the great sorrow his family must have felt as his health declined. May he rest in peace.


I’m so sorry to learn of Bert’s passing. I enjoyed singing in the choir with Bert at FUMC Cary. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. 


Bert always had such a great smile, it was so genuine. Everyone that knew him knows what I am talking about.

He was so proud of his daughters and grandchildren, it was evident every time we went out to diner and got into conversations. 
 
He was such a Dear friend, so good to us and our son. Such a big heart and so kind. 

Bert and Lynn bring up for us so many great memories that make us both smile.  We know they are now together in heaven.

Mr.Bert became one of my favorite guys to help care for his smile and his eyes and the gentleness of his spirit he and I grew a great friendship and bond he loved for me to spoil him and eat his sweet cakes,he also liked to play checkers which is my favorite game and oh boy he so remembered how to play the last day I saw Bert we ate lunch together and we just were hanging out and when I left that day I kissed his head and told him I love him he looked at me with those eyes and smile and Said I LOVE YOU I'm so happy I got to be apart of his life .. God bless you all and The GENTLE GIANT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
