Gregg Gouyd Sr, of Charlotte, passed away on November 11, 2024. Born on July 8, 1953 in Wheeling WV, he lived in Ohio, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, and Florida, before settling in Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated from Buffalo State College and worked for Fisher Price Toys and Gold Bond. When he came to Charlotte, he started working with Mill Power Supply/ CED, where he worked for 37 years.
Outside of work, his hobbies included football (Buffalo Bills), the Beatles, figuring out family history, playing with his dog, telling stories about his summer trip to Maine when he was a kid, and his ’58 Chrysler New Yorker (it was blue), taking pictures of the sunsets, voting against Trump and MAGA Republicans, and not being interrupted during Jeopardy.
He is predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Terrie; parents, Charles and Barbara Gouyd, and brother, David Gouyd. Survivors left to treasure his memory include son, Matthew Gouyd (Eric); step-daughter, Melissa Rivera (Jose); “adopted daughter,” Blake Nowlin; sister, Julie Brown (Terry); sister in law, Marie Hunter (Mitch), and numerous nieces and nephews and two grandchildren, and his current canine companion, Sir Baron Murray Fluffington MacPaws III, Earl of Barksville.
Those who knew him best will remember his strong commitment to family, and his unrivaled work ethic. Sometimes, these seemed to be in competition with each other, but to him, they worked toward the same goal: to provide. He also demonstrated a willingness to try any culinary concoction his son produced with a good poker face and provided feedback with restraint when the final product was less than edible.
The family will receive friends for a graveside service on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Metrolina Center for the Blind. Condolences for the family can be made at www.forestlawnwest.com.
