Gloria Griner

Born April 30, 1928 in Birmingham, AL she was a daughter of the late Carrington Luther Dews, Sr. and Mabel Burns Dews. Raised in Hattiesburg, MS, she graduated from Hattiesburg High School (1945) and attended Mississippi State College for Women where she earned a degree in Elementary Education (1949). After teaching for several years in Vicksburg, MS she moved to Charlotte, NC to join the staff of Covenant Presbyterian Church as a kindergarten teacher.

Gloria was a devoted, beloved wife and mother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lovette Griner. Together they enjoyed traveling, birdwatching, gardening, and dancing. Her love of her friends, family, and particularly her granddaughters was her greatest joy. She was a lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Charlotte where she served in many capacities including Bible Moderator and President of Presbyterian Women.

She is survived by her four children, Marian Lee Griner, Robert Timothy Griner, his wife Cathy, Susan Lynn Griner, all of Charlotte and Carrington Dews Griner, and his wife Hillary, of Nederland, Co; and her three granddaughters, Patricia Marie Griner, Emily Jean Griner, and April Lovette Flores Griner; as well as one remaining sister-in-law, Frances Griner of Orlando, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 1000 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 at 11:00 am on Friday, July 7, 2017. Immediately following, family will receive friends in the adjoining Fellowship Hall.
