George was born to Virginia and George Sloan Sr., on December 9, 1936, in Charlotte, NC.
He grew up in Gastonia but moved back to Charlotte his senior year and graduated from Central High School in 1959.
At age 19 he opened up his own Esso station and was the youngest owner in NC.
He also owned a couple cars lots in the Charlotte area until he retired.
He was a longtime member of the Shriners in which they actively raised funds for the children’s hospitals.
George is survived by his wife Joan Fleming Sloan whom he was married to for 58 years, his two children, Kelly Sloan Bennett (Steve Bennett), Heidi Lee Sloan and his sister, Jeanne Harper. He is also survived by his five grandsons Sloan Bennett, Donnie Both, Max Bennett, Austin Both and Beau Bennett, as well as, many nieces, a nephew and cousins.
George had such a zest for life, was always the life of the party and had a gift for making people laugh and smile. His sense of humor was larger than life and he never took life too seriously.
He spent a lot of his life in North Myrtle Beach where he and Joan, showed off their shagging skills. They were even inducted into the SOS (shaggers or surfers) club!
George had a love for his family, arm wrestling, cars, motorcycles, dancing and animals.
He was also given the gift of compassion and would have given anyone his last nickel if they needed it. He was always helping a friend or a stranger in need!
George’s family will host a celebration of life on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2pm. The service will be at McEwen Funeral Home Chapel in Charlotte NC (10500 Park Road)
