Nancy Puckett passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 just before 8 AM. She was originally from West Seneca, NY. She was married for 66 years to Lee Puckett. They had four sons who kept them very busy with Scouting and Hockey all over NY and Canada.
She was the daughter of William Bela Sabo and Helen Nemeth who emigrated to the U.S. from Hungary. Her mother died when Nancy was very young and she was raised by her Aunt, Julia Marie Sabo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her Aunt Julia; brother, James Sabo; sister, Irene Birkmeyer; and her youngest son, Craig Joseph Puckett.
She is survived by her husband, Lee M. Puckett; sons: Keith (wife Cathy), Ken (wife Stephanie), and Marc; 14 grandchildren: Valerie, Stacey, Alysia, Zackery, Jessica, Taylor, Caroline, Cameron, Cheyenne, Jennifer, Alex, Zoey, Tyler, and Lilly; 5 great-grandchildren: Cason, Maisy, Aria, Micah and Abigail; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nancy was an avid volunteer in all of the communities she lived in, including many years with West Seneca Developmental Center working with an Occupational Therapist helping individuals with Down's Syndrome work for the local Fisher Price Toy Company in NY.
She taught Sunday school at St. Simon’s Episcopal Church for 15 years. Lee and Nancy were also very active in the local Jaycees. They both still have many friends and loving family in the Western NY area and have kept in close contact with them all.
In 1978 they moved from West Seneca, NY to Charlotte, NC with Lee’s Employer, National Gypsum Company. The move was difficult as most of the boys were still in High School. Nancy got involved with the local community in Charlotte, including holding a weekly craft show at Sharon Towers Retirement Center. She joined the “Little Theater of Charlotte” and held offices with the Auxiliary. Then she also joined the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and chaired and co-chaired for the ARC on Central Avenue up until she was no longer able to.
Nancy also later became a “welcomer” volunteer for the New Neighbors introducing and welcoming others to her community. She volunteered for the Loaves and Fishes Program at Holy Comforter Episcopal and St. Vincent De Paul Catholic churches.
The family loved to travel and did trips up and down the East Coast from Maine to Key West, FL and out west in their truck camper. After the kids were grown, Lee and Nancy went on yearly trips to Buffalo, NY to visit with friends and family. They also went on yearly trips to Siesta Key, FL, one of their favorite places. Nancy loved seashells and the beach and they thoroughly enjoyed their condo at North Myrtle Beach, SC.
She also carried on her son Craig’s hobby of making jewelry out of old and heirloom silverware. They traveled all over the Southeast attending craft shows to show her artistic and creative jewelry, keeping his dream alive.
Nancy was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.
