Egan was born in Herkimer N.Y. 2/18/1948 to Jim and Ruth Kirby Hammond. She lived and went to Mohawk School system where she graduated in 1966. She studied computer science at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY.
In 1975 she joined the U.S. Army. She was in HHC PSYOP at Fort Bragg, NC. She was a Spec 4 and earned an Expert Badge M-16 (shooting) and a Good Conduct Medal. She was a Reproduction Equipment Repair Specialist doing photo layout and map making. She drove the huge cargo trucks, which she loved. Was in active duty thru 1978. During the 1980s she was in the U.S. Army Reserves for four years.
She moved to Charlotte in 1984. She first worked for First Union Bank and then worked at Bank of America as a systems analyst until she retired.
She loved animals, rode motorcycles, water skiing when she was younger. She put her heart into everything she did. She would give anyone the shirt off her back. She and her sister went on trips to England and Ireland to visit our ancestral homes. The house in Eydon, Northants England was built during King George the III reign and still has occupants.
She will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her sister, Jama Hammond; 14 cousins and their families; many dear friends; and her dog, Murphy.
A memorial service for Egan will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael The Archangel Anglican Church, 2211 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
