Edward Joseph Schweiger, II, age 76, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Wilora Lake Lodge. A son of the late Edward Joseph Schweiger, Sr. and Elva Pearl Compton Schweiger, he was born on April 27, 1938 in Richmond, IN. Mr. Schweiger was a graduate of Ball State University and taught high school in Richmond, IN before moving to Charlotte. While in Charlotte, he worked for DANA Corp. for thirty years and was a member of Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School to the high school students. Mr. Schweiger was a fifty year member of the Derita Lodge #715 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, the Oasis Shrine Temple and was an Oasis Shrine Hillbilly Clan #13. Mr. Schweiger served as Raban of the Hillbilly Clan for twenty two years and retired in 2007. He was then elected Raban Emeritus of Oasis Shrine Hillbillies and was Tarheel #1 of the Hillbillies. In retirement, Mr. Schweiger was a professional Santa Claus for many years and enjoyed collecting black powder weapons.
A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, July 16th at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6740 Albemarle Rd., with the Rev. Dr. Ron G. Tippens officiating. Masonic burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to the funeral hour.
Mr. Schweiger is survived by a son, Edward Joseph Schweiger, III and fiancée, Maria Victoria Baptiste and son, Giovanni, of Ashland, OR; a brother, John C. Schweiger and wife Candace, of Ashland, OR; a granddaughter, Emilie Nouveau and husband Jakob Perry, of Vancouver, WA; a brother-in-law, Mike Rigsby and wife Melanie, of Lima, OH; a special friend, Brenda Schanie, of Charlotte; four nieces and thirteen great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty six years, Rosa Lee Schweiger.
