Edward Pizer, 89, passed away on February 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born on January 9, 1934 in Raleigh, a son of the late William and Sadie Lasher Pizer.
Ed Pizer was a loving and devoted husband to Debora Rabhan Pizer for 59 years. Ed received his Economics and Law Degrees from Duke University. He was a veteran of the US Army. Ed practiced Corporate and Real Estate law in both Raleigh and Charlotte, and then went on to become a managing Partner of Eastowne Office Park in Chapel Hill.
Ed served as President of the Beth Meyer Synagogue and the B’nai B’rith. He also was a founder of the Raleigh Chevra Kadisha (The Jewish Burial Society). In 1984, Ed and Debora immigrated to Tel Aviv, Israel where he was the President of Congregation Tiferet Shalom, and the President of the Tel Aviv Region Association of Americans and Canadians in Israel. An ardent Zionist, he became a licensed Israel Ministry of Tourism guide. Ed served on the Boards of the Masorti, AACI, and the Bat Sheva Ballet. Ed was also active in Russian Aliyah and attended the Helsinki Accords – Human Rights Section in Vienna. Upon moving back to Charlotte, Ed served on the Levine Jewish Community Center Board.
His loving wife, Debora Rabhan Pizer, survives Ed Pizer. He leaves behind his three devoted children, Randy Cooley (Greg Faust), Amy Gail Pizer (Hal Goldstein) and Wayne Pizer (Amy Elizabeth). Ed was a loving and committed grandfather to his six grandchildren: Diana Faust and Jessica Faust (Chris Long), Sophie and Eli Goldstein, and Josh and Noah Pizer.
Services will be held 1pm on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, 450 N. State St., Raleigh, NC.
