Edward Junior Jones, 94, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023. He was born on September 14, 1928, in Thaxton, Virginia, one of eight children born to the late Harry and Dean Virginia Jones.
Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Webb Jones; two brothers, Alfred and Raymond Jones; and four sisters, Nora Cromer, Evelyn Maxey, Mildred Brooks and Nellie Johnson.
Edward spent his entire working life serving his country in the U.S. Army. Following the war, he worked in the Post Office in Yokohama, Japan, where he met his wife, Ann (his favorite story). They married in 1952 after returning to the United States. His career took them to bases throughout the U.S., Europe and the Pacific. In 1992, he retired as a Master Sergeant, then returned to work for the Army as a civilian for several more years. Edward loved cars, fishing, and traveling with his family; and was known for his knack for “fixing things” around the house and for his baking.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay Lewis, and son, Jay Jones (Kelly); six grandchildren, Brannon Sharp (Susan), Chris Jones (Lindsay), Lindsay Jones (James), Anne Turner (Brian), Grace Mollohan (Jay), Jayme Schreck (Mike); 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Jones.
