Charlotte - Edward John Elliott, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Presbyterian Hospital in the James J. Harris Hospice Unit. He was born April 22, 1929 in Peabody, Massachusetts to Flora May Murphy and Edward Francis Elliott.
Edward is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Wossick Elliott; his son Christopher John Elliott, daughter-in-law Winn Rollins Elliott, and their children Christopher Jr., Collier, Faith and Rollins of Charlotte; daughter Catherine Elliott Armitage, son-in-law John Brooks Armitage, and their children Vivian and Edward Elliott Armitage, of Oklahoma City. Edward’s twin sister, Mary Elliott, also passed away on January 16, 2015 in Peabody, MA.
Edward served in the Korean Conflict as a cryptographer and member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps stationed in Nome, Alaska and trained at the Army ASA unit in Vint Hill Farms Station, Virginia. After being honorably discharged from the Army he obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University in 1958. Edward worked for FMC Corporation in Princeton (NJ), Buffalo (NY) and NYC before he moved to Charlotte, NC in 1963. He was a Principal in Ford, Elliott & Trimble, a textile machinery manufactures representative company. Edward enjoyed his business relationships and had the opportunity to serve his clients in the US, UK, Europe, Japan, and Taiwan. Following his retirement, Ed served on the Mecklenburg County Waste Water Commission and was a regular contributor to “Textile World” Magazine. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association, Fellow of The Society of Dyers and Colourists, licensed Profesional Engineer in 5 states, and member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
Edward never met a stranger, and three things were guaranteed when you met him, he would ask you “where are you from?”; he knew an interesting piece of trivia from your hometown; and he would make you laugh.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2015. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be private.
