He was born June 7, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA and spent his childhood in Marine City, Michigan. His parents were Esther (Arnott) and Raymond Silden, both deceased.
Dave graduated from Central Michigan University (BME) and Ball State University (MA). He was an instrumental music educator in Michigan, Garrett, Indiana and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Passionate about music since childhood, Dave worked as a public school teacher at the elementary, middle and high school levels. After retiring, he worked at Brodt Music, Mars Music and Sam Ash music.
Dave was a member of the Queen City Brass Band and The Charlotte Pride Band. The euphonium (similar to a baritone horn) was his beloved instrument. He was the founder and director of the Charlotte Tuba - Euphonium Ensemble. This group is composed of low brass enthusiasts from all over North Carolina who gather each month to sight-read music for the sheer joy of sharing with their fellow musicians.
Dave met his wife, Sally, when they worked summers during college at the National Music Camp, Interlochen, Michigan (now Interlochen Center for the Arts). They were on the food staff of the camp and were able to participate in the musical groups as their schedules allowed.
Dave loved gardening, especially roses. He was a member of Park Road Baptist Church for over 20 years, singing in the choir and participating in many book studies to continue deepening his faith. Dave was an avid neighborhood friend as he walked his favorite canine pal, Lucy, several times a day.
Dave Silden is survived by his wife, Sally. They were married 56 years. Mourning his loss are his son, Craig (Kelly); grandsons, Michael and Brandon; sister, Sally Johnson (Tom); brother, Erik (Sheila); niece, Kerry; nephews, Erin and Drew; cousins, Marilyn and Leah; and second cousin, Kira.
A memorial service for David will be held Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209. Visitation and a reception will follow in Helt Hall.
