Claude H. Brooks, Jr., 86, of Rock Hill, passed away of congestive heart failure on August 31, 2014, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House Southminster, Charlotte, N.C. Mr. Brooks was born in Charlotte on July 14, 1928, to Claude H Brooks, Sr. and Gladys Morris Brooks. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 37 years, Carol Milton Brooks, and his daughter, Claudia Dianne Brooks, by a previous marriage. He is survived by a daughter, Marcia Brooks Simon (Steve) of Gainesville, Ga., and a grandson, Stephen Michael Simon of New York, NY; one sister, Betty Brooks Williams; several cousins; a step-son, Mike Milton (Kelly) and his two children, Amanda and Jonathon. Mr. Brooks graduated from Harding High School and started his career early in computer programming working for J.B. Ivey Company, S & W Cafeteria and retired after 35 years with Mitchell Distributing Company. He enjoyed traveling to the beaches in S.C. and to the mountains in Tenn. and Ga. His best buddy, Phoenix, was his favorite pet for 16 years. A period of visitation will be held from 1:00 2:00 p.m. with a service to celebrate the life of Mr. Brooks at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at the McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC, with Pastor Chris Baucom officiating. Burial will follow in the Finding of Moses Garden in Sharon Memorial Park. After the burial, the family will receive friends in the Celebration of Life Room at McEwen Funeral Service where refreshments will be served from 3:30 pm to 4:30 p.m. The family looks forward to visiting with guests and sharing fond memories of Claude Hinnon Brooks, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an organization of your choice
