November 29, 1934 - December 5, 2024
Bud Witherspoon died peacefully at his home on December 5, 2024. He is survived by his five children, Charles "Butch" Nathan, Jr., Cindy Groshon (Baron), Kimberly Guy (Phil), Dayna Eppley (Mike), and Mark (Missy), as well as 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was born in Charlotte, NC on November 29, 1934 to the late Melvin and Mollie Witherspoon. He graduated from Harding High School in 1952 where he excelled in basketball and football. He married his high school sweetheart, the late JoAnn Moose Witherspoon, with whom he shared sixty happy years of marriage. He served four years in the Army 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and cook. After his service, he returned to Charlotte where he was a firefighter at Station 10. He went on to attend Kings Business College and worked at Carolina Sheet Metal. In 1960, he joined with Marcus Yandle to establish Yandle Heating Supply, a company that continues to thrive 64 years later as Yandle-Witherspoon Supply serving North and South Carolina in the wholesale HVAC industry.
Bud was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Charlotte for over forty years, where he served in a variety of ways from church council member to Sunday school teacher. He later attended The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Mt. Holly, NC. He was also a proud and faithful Shriner and a member of the Masonic West Gate Lodge #738.
Bud will best be remembered for his generosity, diligent work ethic, and devotion to his family and his work family. He enjoyed the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, annual family beach vacations, family fish camp Friday nights, and hosting decades of very special family Christmas celebrations and Sunday dinners at his home. He was an inspiration to his family in so many ways and an example of a purpose-driven life.
The family would like to thank Martha Davis, Binta ("B") Tanjang and staff for the loving care and comfort they provided our Dad/PawPaw over the past several years.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 110 S. Main St., Mt. Holly, NC at 2 p.m. The visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The burial will follow at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to The Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
