Carolyn was born February 9, 1933, in Freeport, Illinois. She was the daughter of Richard and Charlotte Coleman. She attended Shurtleff College in Alton, Illinois, where she met and married Edward Eugene Landrus. The two married in 1954 and moved to North Carolina in 1955. Carolyn taught at Drexel Elementary in Drexel, and was a classroom assistant at Landsdowne Elementary in Charlotte. She strongly supported and volunteered in the churches where her husband served as minister of education: First Baptist Church of Hopewell, VA; First Baptist Church, Morganton; Providence Baptist Church, Charlotte; Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte; and Arlington Baptist Church, Mint Hill.
Preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Wayne and Jerry Joe, Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ed, and three daughters Rhoda Schaffer (Bruce) of Newport News, VA; Kathryn Griffin (Toby) of Thomasville; and Margaret Hollar (Roy) of Mint Hill. Grandchildren are Mallory Griffin (High Point), Martha Griffin (Thomasville), Leah Schaffer (Biddeford, ME), Noah Hollar (Mint Hill), Ben Schaffer (Newport News) and Samuel Hollar (Mint Hill). She also is survived by two sisters, Gayle Shatto and Rachele Ross, both of Melbourne, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for her family will be held Saturday, January 28, at Arlington Baptist Church in Mint Hill at 10:00am. A memorial service will follow at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the missions program at Arlington Baptist Church or any church of your choice. Donations may also be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
