Carl was born on September 17, 1937, to the late William Harris and Edna Mae Gardner. He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was a devoted life long member to Matthews Baptist Church and more recently to Providence Baptist Church. Carl was a saddlebred horse rider and attended many shows. He enjoyed gardening and growing a variety of plants or shrubs. Carl was often in the stands of Davidson College cheering during the basketball games.
Carl will be remembered for kindness and care for his family and friends. He had a kind heart and a gentle spirit.
He is survived by his brother, Phillip Gardner; sister-in-laws, Nancy and Betty Gardner, and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Carl was predeceased by his parents; brothers, William, Wade, Bobby, Paul, and Charles; and sister, Margaret.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227, with a service to follow. Carl will be laid to rest at Matthews Historic Cemetery, in Matthews, North Carolina 28105.
