Bill Garrette Haltom, 84, died peacefully in his sleep May 9, 2016. He was born May 22, 1931, in Troy, NC to the late Jesse Garrette Haltom and Lilly Frances White Haltom. He served the US Army 1st Calvary Army Rangers during the Korean War, and he was awarded the Purple Heart for wartime injuries, three Bronze Battle Stars, as well as the Korean Service Medal, the 5th Calvary Regiment medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He worked many years as a master mechanic before retiring in 1996. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Eliza Mozelle White Haltom. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Farrington (William), Vickie Coble (Glenn), and son, Bill Garrette Haltom Jr. (Susan), as well as grandsons Bryan Coble (Kelly), Tim Coble (Haley), Joseph Farrington (Ansley), grand-daughters Michelle Hall (John Michael), Elizabeth Haltom, and Emily Haltom, a great-grand-daughter Charlotte Coble, and great-grandsons Remington Coble and Wyatt Coble. He also leaves behind his devoted girlfriend of 17 years, Linda Hamilton, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. The family would like to especially thank Mary Truesdale for her faithful friendship and service of help to Bill over a number of years. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 12, from 1-2 pm, at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC, followed by a graveside military honors committal at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC.
