Born on August 15, 1939 in Alexander County, she was a Class of 1957 graduate from Hiddenite High School. She attended Carolina Business College before starting her career with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. Betty worked as a school cafeteria manager for 23 years and following retirement enjoyed volunteering at the local Voting precinct.
She married the love of her life, Bill on July 21, 1962 where they maintained a loving household for over 55 years. One of the highlights of their marriage was the renewing of vows on their 50th wedding anniversary in 2012.
Betty enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren. One of her favorite past times was enjoying all of God’s creations from the comfort of her back porch. She especially cherished the warm sunshine, birds chirping, and her beautiful hydrangeas. Betty was a long time and faithful member of Mint Hill Presbyterian Church, forever thankful for the fellowship with the Women of the Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Meadows. Survivors are her loving husband Bill, daughter Melanie Brichant and granddaughter Kayleigh Brichant, son Mike (Kathy) Morris and granddaughters Rebecca and Emily of Crestview, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, June 14 at McEwen Funeral Home Chapel on Monroe Road with burial following in Sharon Memorial Park. A time of visitation for family and friends will be at 1 pm Thursday.
The family will be forever grateful for the wonderful care provided by Dr. David Scholz with Charlotte Gastroenterology and Hepatolgy, Dr. Iveta Swaim with Novant Health Presbyterian Internal Medicine, and the incredible compassionate team at Novant Hospice.
Memorials may be directed to Novant Hospice, the Humane Society of Charlotte, and the Women of the Church of Mint Hill Presbyterian.
