“Mammaw”
Betty Oliver Bailey, 90, of Charlotte, passed away July 20, 2013 at Carillon Assisted Living of Harrisburg.
She was born on June 29, 1923, in Charlotte, to the late Edward Lee Oliver and Bertha Lay Oliver.
Betty graduated from Charlotte’s Thomasboro School. She was employed by Ivey’s for many years, and left there as the Advertising Coordinator of the Carolinas.
Her family is very proud of her years of dedication to her church, her family, friends and community. She was a long time member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where she was awarded a lifetime membership in the Woman’s Society of Christian Service, now known as UMW.
Betty was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Glenn A. Bailey, on February 16, 2013 and by a brother, Edward Lee Oliver, Jr.
Survivors include son, Glenn E. Bailey and wife Susan; daughter, Marsha B. Ammons and husband Eddie. Grandchildren, Heather B. McLendon and husband Eddie, Glenn E. Bailey, Jr.,“Bo” and wife Kim and Julie A. Thomas and husband Brian, Great Grandchildren, Cameron and Samantha McLendon; Austin, Coley and Landis Bailey and Marlee Thomas. Also surviving are a brother, Richard R. Oliver of Lexington, Ky., and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church 6401 Hickory Grove Rd. Charlotte, NC 28215 in the Trinity Room, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. Officiating will be Pastor Mike Goode and The Rev. Dr. Sarah B. Kalish. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
The family offers their deep appreciation to all those that showed their love, care, and concern for “Ms. Betty” at Carillon.
