Barry Goodman, 84, passed away Monday, December 16 in Florida. His last days were spent in his favorite home-away-from-home, Key West, where he vacationed for 40 years. He was surrounded by his family there.
Born January 26, 1940, in New York City, Barry was the son of the late Bernard Goodman and Beatrice Caplowaith Goodman. Barry graduated from George Washington High School and enlisted in the US Army where he served proudly for 6 years. Barry attended NYU and FIT to further his education in fashion and design. After working for a period of time in the NYC garment district, he started his career as a trainee for American Thread Corporation and spent the rest of his career there and with its successor, Coats American where he retired as a Director of International Sales.
The joy and purpose of Barry’s life was his family. He spent 60 years with his wife and best friend, Michelle Youman Goodman, whom he married in 1965. He adored his 2 children, his grandchildren, and their spouses. Barry enjoyed his retirement making the ordinary moments of life – grocery shopping, walks in the park, daily lunch out – extraordinary by spending them with Michelle.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Youman Goodman; two children, Alison (Mark) Lerner of Charlotte, and Joshua (Masha) Goodman of Miami; and two beloved grandchildren, Sean (Daniele) Lerner and Carly Lerner; as well as his sister, Marilyn Rosen of Paramus, New Jersey.
