Ann C McIntyre

Ann was born July 6, 1916 in the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the late Peter Chunka and Maria Zakarovska Chunka. She was a charter member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church where she was instrumental in starting the 50 Plus Club and where she worked for many years with the senior community at her church as well as at several other Charlotte churches. The trips and activities that she planned and carried out were always a great attraction for many senior citizens in the Charlotte area. Ann completed her formal education in European schools before coming to the United States with her sister Elizabeth to rejoin her parents and sister Mary who had emigrated two years before. On February 24, 1935 Ann married the love of her life, Ed Mcintyre and, in spite of it being in the midst of the Great Depression, they embarked on what would be sixty five and a half years of marriage that became an inspiration to their family and many friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Edward F. McIntyre; stepdaughter Frances McIntyre; sisters; Mary Johnson and Elizabeth Tucker. Ann is survived by: daughter June Lewis and husband Joe of Matthews, NC; grandchildren; Stephen A Shear and wife Kathleen of Harrisburg, NC, James E. Shear and fiancé Cindy PoIlio of Matthews; great grandchildren; Jacqueline Shear and fiancé Samuel Newbold of New York City, NY, and Stephen A Shear ill of Concord, NC.; niece Betty Crawford of Charlotte, nephews Robert Tucker, Jr., of Charlotte, and Robert Toth of Clearwater, Florida, as well as great nieces and great nephews, and many dear friends.

The family is extremely grateful for the caring and kindness of the staff at Carrington Place in Matthews who so lovingly cared for Ann during her last days. Without exception each person showed great compassion and love for our mother. We will always be grateful to them.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2013 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 ldlewild Road, Charlotte, NC 28227. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. A reception for family and friends will take place afterwards at the church hall of St. John Neumann.
