Alan will always be missed by his college and high school friends of which he was so much a part.  We are having a reunion next month and will be remembering him.

Chase, Ashley, Anna, and Price, our most sincere condolences are with you as you mourn the loss of a beloved man.   It is easy to see Chase in looking through the photos of Alan.  May you be comforted by the memories and the legacy of the familiar traits passed down to his children.   We send our love and support.  

Uncle Alan is a staple in my memories of me growing up as a child. You see, I would always go up in the summer and stay with Grandma and Grandpa Kerley for several weeks and during that time the highlight would always be getting to stay at Uncle Alan’s. . I eventually started  babysitting my cousin Chase for the summer and I LOVED  those summers with him, Aunt Phyllis, Chase, and Dane! He would entertain us to the fullest by playing the piano and singing (especially those Phil Collins and  Bruce Hornesby and the Range songs 🥰🤣). I am so thankful for those cherished memories. I have memories of Chase and I washing his Porsche, playing tennis with him, family time in the den,  singing at the piano as he played,  and he took us to a Final Four basketball game that was there in Charlotte one year . He even  taught us what it was like to maintain a lawn to perfection - haha.. His intellect was on another level. His knowledge for things astounded me  (remember I was just the niece from South Georgia who admired EVERY thing about him) and he was definitely the smartest person I knew. He loved his family! He would look at Chase and you could visually see the love and pride  he had for him and then when Dane came along that was the icing on the cake.  He had pure joy beaming out of him. I thank God for allowing me to have him as my uncle because my life is better for knowing and getting the chance to love him . May you Rest In Peace Uncle Alan- you will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Losing a parent is wrenching.  Our love, prayers and deepest sympathy are with you. What a remarkable man your father/ grandfather was.  He will always be with you in treasured memories.

Alan was one of the smartest people I have ever met. He was a great friend. We enjoyed biking, skiing, golf, basketball together.  He was very witty and an extremely talented musician. I will miss him. God bless him and his family.

I met Alan during my first week at NC State, September 1968.  He was rooming with Clinton Milligan, one of my Shallotte High School classmates.  After my 3rd semester in Lee Dorm, we rented an apartment at Jefferson Gardens, off Avent Ferry Road.  We hosted many parties, of which many of Alan’s West Mecklenburg High buddies attended.  “Stump Kerley” was the highlight of many of the gatherings.  Alan amazed me with his superior intellect and wit, natural musical talent, physical prowess, never studying, acing most courses, and earning his degree in Aerospace Engineering.  After graduating from State, he was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding for a while and was in charge of finishing parts of the Nuclear Reactor Plants on CVN 68 (USS Nimitz), which is still in service today.  My memories of Alan are numerous; to mention a few, Memorial Day weekends at Ocean Isle Beach, camping and fishing trips at Cape Hatteras.  It was a pleasure to have known Alan and to have experienced many great times together.  Rest in peace, Kerley! 

Alan was the youngest of  3 kids, me and his sister Sue. He never needed to study in school, had a great mind for remembrance. He and I use to Jam together later in life, he on the piano and me with the guitar. He never took piano lessons but could hear a song and almost immediately  play it. Our mother played the piano and organ in church and taught piano but I don't remember Alan ever taking lessons. She skipped several grade levels in school because she already knew what they were teaching and played the piano in church at age 6. I'm sure Alan got all his talent from her. He was quite good on the guitar  too until arthritis made it difficult to play. He will  be sorely missed by his family.

Hadn’t been in contact with Alan for over 45 years  but have fond memories of him from our time at NC State. Remember hanging out with Alan after classes, going to dinner with the gang around Raleigh, playing pick-up basketball games, attending Wolfpack sports events, partying on Hillsborough Street, playing stump Kerley where you tried to name a song he couldn’t play on his guitar, and so much more. Rest in peace Alan.

I knew Alan from elementary school at Thomasboro through college at NC State. We were roommates our Freshman year. In elementary school he would sometimes come over to play football with my neighbors and me. He was competitive academically too and probably made me a better student. A group of us talked almost daily to discuss homework.
After college I lost contact with him.

I met Alan about 15 years ago when he joined Prudential Carolinas Realty-SouthPark, and we worked as a team until his passing. He was a true friend and confidant, and I always marveled at his amazing intellect as he was always the smartest guy in any room!! Until his health prevented him from playing the game of golf, we had many matches at local courses, and he usually won the match!! He taught many of our new agents valuable skills to use in their real estate practice, and he will be missed by all.

Alan was one of the brightest kids in our high school. But what I remember most about him were the times we played pick-up basketball games behind Mulberry Church, he was intense and always played to win. And toward the end of high school and into our years at NC State, Alan, myself, Norman Taylor and a few other kids had bought motorcycles (really small motorcycles) and would have some fun rides around the neighborhood and around the west side of Charlotte. I lost touch with Alan over the years, but had run into him in recent years while we were both in the real estate field. Alan was a good guy, and I'm glad to have called him a friend over so many years. Rest in peace buddy.

Alan and I were close friends for over 50 years, going back to West Mecklenburg High School, then NC State U.   Many wonderful times, and I honestly never recall a cross word or disagreement.  We shared countless experiences in music, sports and education.  Rest In Peace Alan. It was a joy to know you, and my life would have been far less rewarding without you.
