Robert Bohn Irwin Jr. (Bob) exuded his love of family and set high standards for himself and everyone he met through his long and happy life. Bob, son of Robert Sr. and Mildred Irwin, husband of Lorraine (Kelley) Irwin, died at the age 87 on November 14 with his family by his side. Bob grew up in Johnstown, PA and proudly graduated from Johnstown H.S. (class of 1955) and Cambria Rowe Business College.
Bob met the love of his life, Lorraine, when they both worked at Pennsylvania Electric Company. They married in 1960 and spent 65 loving years together as a team exploring the world and taking on every challenge together. Employment opportunities in the Information Technology industry took Bob and his family from PA to OH to NY, and Bob and Lorraine eventually started their own Expert Computing consulting firm. Retirement found them seeking the warm weather of SC where they bought a business and spent several years managing hotel and motel reservations for The Masters and the Darlington Raceway. This business allowed them to meet people from all over the world.
Bob was an active member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church in Chapin and golf clubs at Timberlake and Mid Carolina. Bob was renowned for always showing up for people and significant events, and appreciating his life with family and friends, golfing, playing cards, and cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Buffalo Bills. Bob and Lorraine relished long road trips traveling across the USA and Canada. Bob believed every adventure was more enjoyable if you had a cooler and golf clubs in the car.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lorraine, son Bob, daughter Kelley (Les) and son Bill (Beth), his grandchildren Elle (Adam) Young, Eliza (Dan) Gleason, Emma, Clayton (Katya) Warren, Abigail, Alaina (Noah) Lohr, and Avery, and his delightful great grandchildren, Birdie, Grey and August. Survivors also include his brother, Rick Irwin (Linda), sister-in-law Ann Irwin, many nieces, nephews, and friends with whom he and Lorraine shared special thoughts, moments, and memories over the years. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert and Mildred Irwin, sister Barbara Blimmel, and brother Jack Irwin. Bob closed his eyes in this world and opened them again with God.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to every person at Colonial Gardens Memory Care and Lighthouse Hospice for their personal kindness as they lovingly cared for Bob Irwin.
A visitation for Robert will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, 101 East Boundary Street, Chapin, South Carolina 29036, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
