The last time I ran into Dick out and about in Chapin.

Many fond memories of Dick and his family in Bamberg growing up! My father, Sam Buist coached with him and our families were very close friends. So sorry to read of his passing. 

I was so sorry to read of the passing of Coach Weldon.  I played high school sports in St. Matthews during some of his year in Bamberg.  

He is the only opposing coach that I have any personal recollections of..  he seemingly always had that wonderful smile. He gave the impression that he really cared about you, and I think he did.  He is the only coach that cared enough about me to learn my name and call it when we ran into each other.  We all know how meaningful that is.

Any time spent with Dick was a bright spot in my day. If ever we need to look at a life well-lived, Dick's cheerful, enthusiastic, generous,  compassionate, loving spirit is an example for us all. "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Coach Weldon and  Billy Parker took the Gamecock golf team to Tallahassee spring of ‘74 for a tournament hosted by Florida State.  David DuPre and I rode with them.  What a treasure Dick was.  Began a long friendship I had with him.

One of my most uplifting memories is calling Dick Weldon "Coach", and trying (unsuccessfully) to tackle him on the practice field - BHS, 1954 - 55. My name is Randy Yoakum and Dick Weldon was my backfield coach at the University of South Carolina in 68 and 69. He was the most positive and exuberant man I ever met and helped get through  very hard times while playing football.  He will always be remembered by those he came in touch with and I’m so sorry for your loss .

I remember my father, Jimmie Kinard, talking about Coach Weldon when he was at Bamberg, and how much respect he had for him as a coach and a man.  My heart goes out to the family and to those who knew him personally.  May he rest in peace and may those he touched along his journey be comforted in what he gave them and may it ease the pain of his passing.

Thank you Coach Weldon for all of your comfort and care during a very difficult time in my teen years. You have been such an influence in so many lives especially Bamberg people. Prayers for your family were given in the Edisto Beach Baptist Church and continued prayers for Deanie, your sons and their families. We will miss you at class reunions. God Bless. 

Coach Weldon was always smiling, happy, and full of life unless he was on the football field. Then he was very serious and it paid off for our little town of Bamberg. I remember him being in his little office in the gym watching the football films from the last game. If we weren't in class, we were allowed to hang out there and watch football. I don't know why he chose Bamberg, but he always treated all of us the same. No matter how important he became, he never forgot Bamberg and we didn't forget him.  Betty Worley Class of 1964.

 Coach Weldon’s family!  He was one of my teachers when I was in high school at Bamberg.  He was a great teacher and a great Coach!  God bless and comfort all of his family and his many friends!

Sorry to hear of Mr Weldon passing. He was one of my favorite people. I went to North High School but he was always a special person when we competed against each other.  He would never run the score up on us and he had plenty of chances over the years. He was one of the TOP coaches in the world.  Love C B Hughes

My coach, Dick Weldon, 1929-2022, 732-0.

Back in 1965, Coach Weldon was a state championship coach at Bamberg, and I was state player of the year at Dreher. He became my running backs’ coach at SC. To me, he was Dreher’s honorable Charlie Stuart with a dash of Lou Holtz, my defensive backs' coach at SC. 

As a coach, Dick Weldon's lifetime official record was 538 wins, 189 losses, and 5 ties. I say he was 732-0. 

Rest in peace. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Dick was a genuinely likable man who was well respected in the real estate industry.  The number of successful agents he has mentored is phenomenal and his positive attitude encouraged so many.  May he find peace in God's eternal arms. 

As has been said many times by others, "He Was Larger Than Life", a man of integrity and ethics and a true motivator.

I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Dick' s passing.  He was a kind soul and a great neighbor.  I can close my eyes and he him cutting his grass or walking on his dock. The Weldon family is in my heart and prayers.....Holly Wessinger 

Coach Weldon gave me my first job coaching high school football at Lexington High School.  He was a fearless leader and to this day gave the most intense pregame talk of any coach I ever witnessed.  He was a motivator and just a great human being. His Red Plymouth Jet has come in "hot" many times at the high school. He will be missed and thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Coach Weldon coached at Bamberg  High School while I was a student. He was larger than life and never met a stranger. He was an outstanding coach leading our Red Raiders to 1965 Class B State Champions. I babysat his three boys often and felt like part of his family. We all have such fond memories of Coach Weldon and I attribute much of my happy high school years to him. Rest In Peace. We are all full of sorrow. Teresa Ashbaugh Lowe
