George Andrew Bickley, age 82, of Chapin, SC, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024. Born on August 6, 1942 in Prosperity, SC, he was the beloved husband of Bobbie Jean Bickley for 62 years, and a loving father, grandfather, and friend.
George was a lifelong resident of Chapin and an avid supporter of the South Carolina Gamecocks. His love for the Gamecocks was well-known, and he could often be found cheering them on with the same passion he showed for his family. His loyalty to his team was only rivaled by his unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and infectious sense of humor, George’s presence brought warmth and joy to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A proud veteran of the South Carolina Army National Guard, George served his country with honor for 23 years, worked as a butcher and Meat Market Manager for various grocery chains in the Columbia,Irmo and Chapin area, notably Winn Dixie,Bi-Lo,Red & White/ Foodland and retiring from Foodlion. Andy was deeply committed to his family and community, he coached Little league football and baseball for years.
He was the cherished father of Kenny (Julie) Bickley, Karen Bundrick, and Sharon (Kevin) Shealy and a doting grandfather to six grandchildren: Michelle (Chuck) Deese, Jessie Bickley, Danny Bundrick, Hunter (Kelsey) Bickley, Kaiti (Wesley) Stroble, and Drew Shealy.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, George is survived by his two sisters, Linda Grant and Betty Jean Lester, as well as numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Holly Bickley and Annie Pearl Bickley, his siblings Dot Metts, Frank Bickley, and Herman Bickley, and his son-in-law Timmy Bundrick, and two nieces Robin Bickley, and Martha Bickley Rowell.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Little Mountain, SC. Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 3:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate George’s life and the many ways he touched those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Holy Trinity Life Center, Holy Trinty Lutheran Church in Little Mountain, SC and the Alzheimer’s Association.
