He graduated from Mount Zion Institute, Winnsboro, SC in 1959. During that year Mount Zion Institute won the South Carolina State High School football championship. This first and last time that feat was accomplished in Winnsboro, SC. Afterwards, he enrolled into Clemson University, enjoying a storied athletic career under the legendary Frank Howard, playing both offensive and defensive tackle. After college, Wade left Clemson University and was drafted into the Army and rose to the rank of Captain. While serving in Vietnam he acquired the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Medal. After being wounded in Vietnam and discharged from the Army, he elected to pursue his degree and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Degree in Business through the GI Bill. After graduation Wade began a long and fruitful 30-year career with Xerox Corporation as a valued member of its management staff. Wade saw promotions with Xerox to Dallas, TX; Orlando, FL; Ft Lauderdale, FL; Rochester, NY; and finally Atlanta, GA. Once retired, Wade moved his wife, Georgia, to Pawleys Island, SC, where they enjoyed a life of relaxation and travel. They finally settled in Hoschton, GA to be close to their two sons, Scott and Steve.
Wade’s passions were Clemson football, a long standing member of IPTAY, a Shriner, a mentor to young adults, supporting his grandson, Cole in all endeavors, playing golf, and loving his wife, Georgia. The joys of his life were his children and grandson. He and Georgia spent much of their adult life and all of their retirement years traveling the United States and the world.
He wed the former Georgia Diane Compton in January 1967 and was blessed with 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Georgia of Hoschton, GA; sons, Scott of Cumming, GA and Steve of Johns Creek, GA, and his only grandson, Cole Hall. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Louise Mincey Liner, Charlene Hall Cooper, Annie Dorothy Hall Cartee (Dot), and Betty Jane Ellenburg.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 4, 2020, with services to follow at 2 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel at 7600 Woodrow St., Irmo, SC 29063. Interment to immediately follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Rd., Columbia, SC 29212.
