William Joseph Berguin III passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 22, 2015 in Chandler, AZ. He was 87 years old. Bill was born February 19, 1928 in Sioux Falls, SD to parents William Joseph Berguin and Clara Frances (Hinds) Berguin.
He attended Washington High School where he participated in football and swimming. Bill graduated from the University of SD with a Business degree and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
Bill married his HS sweetheart, Sally Ann Savage on June 9, 1951. Bill and Sally raised four children in Chamberlain, Pierre and Rapid City, SD. They later moved to Sun Lakes, AZ to be closer to family and to enjoy the warmer climate.
Bill served in the US Navy toward the end of WWII on the USS Badoeng Strait. Bill was a devoted and dedicated provider to his wife and family. He enjoyed learning different trades and mentoring others. He explored varied occupations before settling into the financial investment industry.
He initially worked for Standard Oil Company in Chamberlain, SD. After moving to Pierre, SD, Bill owned and operated the successful Corral Drive In restaurant. Bill also served as Secretary of the SD State Senate, and Hughes County Commissioner as Chairman. He then became a Financial Adviser/Stock Broker in Rapid City, SD, eventually managing the Sioux Falls branch of Dain Bosworth, Inc. where he was appointed as a Vice President.
Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, camping in the Black Hills with his family, and golfing with friends and family at the Elks Club in Pierre, Arrowhead Country Club in Rapid City, and Cottonwood CC in Sun Lakes, AZ.
We will miss the love, care and companionship he provided to his family and friends, but find comfort knowing he is at peace and reunited with his wife, son and grandson.
Bill is survived by his children Rebecca Berguin, Brandon Berguin (Susanne), and Barbara Berguin Snyder (Joel); grandchildren John Rolando (Dacia), Katherine Hewitt (David), Brandon Berguin, William Berguin (Jenna), Brittany Berguin, Stephanie Snyder, Hanna Snyder; great grandchildren Zeke and Ruthie Rolando; and his sister, Barbara Seaverns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sally, his brother Richard Berguin, his sister Jacqueline Berguin, his son William J. Berguin IV, and his grandson Hayden Rolando.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary in Chandler, AZ.
