Vernon Curtis Waller, comically known by family as Punk, peacefully passed away on January 27, 2024, in Chandler, Arizona, at the age of 74. He was born to Clarice and Vernon Waller on February 5, 1949, in Sidney, Montana.
Vern was the first of five children in his family and grew up in a small town in Montana. He met Audrey, his beloved wife of 55 years, through a friend, and they married on January 11, 1969. Together, they built a beautiful life and welcomed two children, Tina and Jeffrey into their family.
Vern was a man of many hobbies and interests. He had a passion for camping, fishing, and working on old cars. He and his son, Jeffrey, shared a love for automobiles and together they built a 1965 Mustang and a 1956 Chevy big back window pickup. Vern took pride in his cars and enjoyed showcasing them at various car shows, even earning a trophy for his exceptional craftsmanship. He believed that with determination and hard work, anything was possible. He loved sharing stories of his accomplishments, such as raising his in-law's (Elmer and Myrtle Engbrecht) house 4.5 feet off its foundation using railroad ties and jacks, a feat many thought was impossible.
Vern was a kind-hearted and generous man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was known for his friendly and talkative nature, making friends wherever he went. His warm personality made everyone feel like they were part of his family, and he cherished the connections he made throughout his life.
Vern is survived by his wife, Audrey, and their two children, Tina and Jeffrey, and his wife Jennifer. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Cody and his wife Shannelle, Nate, Danielle, Hannah, and Alec, as well as six great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by two sisters: Cheryl Stene and Janice Stockert, as well as two brothers: David and Ronald Waller.
Vern attended Sidney High School, graduating in 1967. After completing his education, he served in the National Guard from 1967-1973.
Vern's professional career was spent working as the Chief Operator at the Laurel Water Plant and later with the City of Chandler Water Department, where he eventually retired in 2012. He also ran a business, J&V Water Services.
Vern was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran, where he found solace and strength. His faith was an important aspect of his life, providing guidance and support.
Vernon Curtis Waller will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kindness, laughter, and stories made an impact on so many. His warm spirit, unwavering determination, and kind heart will be remembered and cherished forever.
