January 14, 1934 – January 1, 2012
Stuart Irwin Hutchinson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 77. The son of Naoma & Leslie Hutchinson, Stuart was born January 14, 1934 in Pontiac, Michigan where he was raised and in high school he met his beloved wife, Nancy Lou Hetherington. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Stuart & Nancy had five children, Michael, Craig, Steven, Ann, and Kimberly. Three survive, Craig of Conroe, Texas(Susan), Ann Longmire of Lemoore, California(Bill), and Kimberly Stahl of Chandler, Arizona(Dale). Stuart was a devoted grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 8. He is also survived by his sister Judy Tuson of Clarkston, Michigan.
After graduating from Pontiac High School, he attended Central Michigan University. Throughout his educational years, he excelled in almost every major sport. In later years he became a fine golfer gathering many accolades including 3 hole in one awards.
Upon finishing his education Stuart joined his father’s company, Pontiac Coach Company, a manufacturer of fine mobile homes which later merged with Detroiter Mobile homes. In 1959 he was transferred to the Hutchinson, Kansas Detroiter plant where he was appointed sales manager of Detroiter Mobile Homes.
In early 1966, Stuart’s Uncle, Mel Hutchinson, president of Detroiter Mobile Homes asked him to take over management of Ranch Trailer Sales (later Ranch Homes) based in Chandler, Arizona. Detroiter Mobile Homes had taken over Pontiac Coach upon the death of Stuart’s father. Ranch Homes was wide ranging with sales in Arizona, California and New Mexico. When Detroiter was purchased by National Gypsum in 1976, Stuart was able to retire although he continued his involvement in various real estate partnerships in the greater Chandler area.
He & Nancy then purchased property in the White Mountains, where he started working on improving his golf handicap. The Hutchinson’s spent many summers at their vacation home in Pinetop with family and friends. Stuart joined the White Mountain Country Club in the ‘70’s where he served a term as a director.
His family and many friends find little consolation in his loss. The only comfort is that he lived life large, well, and generously. A memorial service and internment will be held at 11am, January 14, 2012 at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 East Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona 85248. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Americare Hospice & Palliative Care, 1212 N. Spencer Street, #2, Mesa, Arizona 85203.
Arrangements under the direction of Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, Chandler, AZ.
