He was born on October 2, 1926, the 3rd of 11 children to Lorenzo Apodaca and Teresa (Delci) Buelna. He grew up in Chandler, and attended Chandler High School. He enlisted in the US Navy after graduation, and served as a Corpsman, Pharmacist 1st mate division assigned to a Marine Corps. Unit during World War II. After his honorable service to our country, He returned to Chandler, working at Chandler Regional Hospital as a landscape maintenance worker for over 30 years. He married his grade school sweetheart, Estella Soto, on March 6th, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chandler. Roy played baseball, semi pro softball, golf, and most of all, enjoyed time with his family. He belonged to the American Legion post 35 in Chandler., and was an employee of the year at Chandler Regional Hospital.
Roy is survived by his wife, Estella Buelna; sons Roy Buelna Jr., Henry Buelna,Art Buelna (Maryann), Fred Buelna (Debra); daughters, Angela Lara (Ernie), Teresa Buelna, Mercedes Buelna; brothers, Joe Buelna, Raymond Buelna, Ruben Buelna; sisters, Patsy Trevino, Virginia Parrish; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence, Robert, Tommy, Gilbert; sister Lydia Buelna; son, Reynaldo Buelna and granddaughter Penny Lynn Buelna.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 22, from 11 am until 12 pm, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 12:30 at Valley of the Sun Cemetery.
