Nancy K. Gawkoski, née Jaynes, passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2019. Nancy was born on January 22, 1941 in Coldwater, Michigan, daughter of Oran W. Jaynes and Mary E. Johnson. Nancy joined the U.S. Air Force in December 1960 and left just after her marriage in November 1962. She continued working for the U.S government as a civil servant until her retirement in 1995. Nancy became an accountant and spent the latter part of her career with the U.S. Department of Defense - Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS). Within her role, she traveled extensively with trips to Europe, Thailand, Singapore, and New Zealand. After retirement, Nancy moved to Arizona and volunteered with the local library recording books on tape and she also worked for an Arizona school district as a teacher’s aide.
Nancy is survived by her brother, Dennis Jaynes; her children, Leslie Gawkoski, Lisa Schmidt, and Edward Gawkoski; and by her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored with all her heart.
In-lieu of flowers, a Memorial Contribution can be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Nancy K. Gawkoski.
Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Thursday, July 11 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life following the interment at 538 S Upham St, Lakewood, CO.
