Mary Bernadine Ozburn (Williams) of Chandler, AZ passed away peacefully at home on February 26th, 2023 at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family. “Bernie”, as she was best known, was born April 10, 1930 to Bernard and Leota Williams in Murphysboro, IL. She attended St. Andrews Catholic Elementary School in Murphysboro where she met Joe Ozburn, her soul mate for life. During her four years at Murphysboro High School, she was a majorette in the marching band and built wonderful memories with her many friends. Not long after graduation, she and Joe were married on March 26, 1951. They raised six children and enjoyed 65 fun-filled years together before Joe’s passing in 2016.
Bernie was a dedicated wife, mother, sister and ‘Nana’. She was committed to her Catholic faith and showed kindness and compassion to everyone she met. She loved to play tennis, bowl in a league, entertain and was known to enjoy a cocktail or two with her husband and friends on weekends. Bernie was a loyal Kanas City sports fan and arm chair enthusiast, cheering on her KC Royals, Chiefs and KU teams bedecked in proper game attire.
Bernie has joined her husband Ross Joseph and her eldest son Joseph Michael in Heaven. She is survived by her children Gay (Dan), Linda (Glen), Tim, (Michelle) Pat (Sheila) and Scott (Margaret), daughter-in-law Patty and her brother Michael Williams. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass hosted by Father Bob will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Murphysboro IL, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to help celebrate the life and times of Bernie Ozburn - a truly loving soul who will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley (1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014), an incredible organization that provided love, comfort and support to Bernie and her family in her final weeks of life.
