Marion Sutton passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2016 following a decade long decent into dementia. Marion was born on August 22, 1922 in Caro, Michigan, the youngest daughter of Thomas and Hazel Hunter. At 93, she was the last surviving member of her family of three sisters and three brothers. She grew up in southeastern Michigan, graduating from Highland Park High School in 1940, following which she spent a number of years as a secretary in the Detroit corporate offices of the S.S. Kresge Company. On a blind date set up by her sisters, she met Fred Sutton of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She became Marion Sutton in May, 1943, marrying Fred who was a Sergeant in the US Army; they were finally able to start their life together in November, 1945 following Fred’s return from combat in Europe. Their married life was spent together in Detroit and Redford, Michigan, Rockford, Illinois and finally, Mesa Arizona. During this time Marion was a clean freak housewife (and sometimes secretary) and a loving mother to their two children, Ken, born in 1949 and Marcia (Larson), born in 1951. It was a happy time for the two for them and the kids and eventually the grandsons. They adored each other. They were devoted members of the Methodist Church, in particular Aldersgate Methodist in Redford and Gilbert First United Methodist here. Fred passed away in the fall of 1998. Unfortunately, it was at this time the early signs of dementia appeared and relentlessly worsened as Marion disappeared more and more into herself until two Sundays past when she was finally set free. In Arizona, Marion is survived by son Ken, with wife Ellyn, plus their two children Beth (Gaddy) and Jon and two Gaddy grandsons Noah and Aaron. In California, Marion is survived by daughter Marcia, with husband Mark Larson, and their children Jeff, Brandon and Kristin (Rockhey) and Larson grandsons Mark, Micah, Seth and Jeremiah. Marion’s life was celebrated at a family ceremony on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Valley of the Sun Cemetery where she and Fred are now back side by side. Amen.
