Edith Evans passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, at the age of 89 in Sun Lakes, AZ. Born on May 6, 1935, Edith was a beacon of love and the epitome of a family matriarch. Her life was a testament to her passion for family, friends, and community.
Edith was a dedicated homemaker, nurturing four children and numerous pets over the years. Her leadership extended beyond her home as she served multiple terms as President of a Hadassah Chapter in New York and Arizona and made history as the first woman president of Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel in Port Chester, NY. She was a Marshall for the Dental Fraternity Alpha Omega and voted Woman of the Year by Hadassah. Her commitment to her community was unwavering, and she was an active member of the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation.
Her hobbies included playing Mahjong and Rummikub, creating bead art and needlepoint, and she was an avid reader and golfer. Edith loved attending crafts fairs and was a frequent patron of the opera and theater. A world traveler, she especially cherished her time on cruises. Edith graduated from New Rochelle High School and furthered her education at Cedar Crest College. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Seymour Evans, her son Jonathan Evans, and her parents, David and Myne Pauker. She is survived by her daughters, Andrea Evans Novak, Ilene Evans, and Leslie Evans-Bradley (David Bradley); grandchildren, Diana Novak-Tedd (Casey Tedd), Jacqueline Novak, Evan Novak, and Benjamin Bradley; and great-grandchild, Amelia Rush.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery in Chandler, AZ.
