Doug is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vicki, of Sun Lakes, AZ, his son, Joseph and fiancée Rebecca Moore of Dallas, TX, his brother Mike, sister Patty & Bob McMillan, sister Kathy Merrill, father in law, Peter Hansen, and sister in laws, Rickae & Terry Tyler, and Lori & Pat Devine, and his precious Golden Retriever, Daisy.
Doug was raised in Lewiston, ID and graduated from the University of Idaho. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and MaryLou Merrill, and his sister Sandy McElroy.
Doug had a long career as an Operations Executive at Macy’s (The Bon Marché) Department Stores, serving as a Vice President in his later years. Subsequently, Doug worked as Associate Director of Finance and Administration at the University of Washington, later consulting for many universities; completing projects for Stanford, Vanderbilt & the University of Utah. Doug received numerous commendations for his work throughout the years, including from the Governor of the State of Washington.
He was celebrated for his service and kindness to others, loving smile, and thoughtful nature. He enjoyed golfing with his son, Joseph, gardening, and taking long power walks. Doug was an avid Seahawks fan, holding season tickets for 37 years, and almost never missed a game.
Doug will be sorrowfully missed by his family, who meant the world to him. A Celebration of Life will be held in Washington State this summer, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, Doug requested individuals donate to their favorite pet charity or Helping Hands Rescue in Lewiston, ID @helpinghandsrescue.org.
