Barbara Lamar Hudson, 93, of Chandler passed away on March 26, 2024. Barbara was born on January 17, 1931, to Louise and Clifford Lamar. She was a second-generation Arizonan. Her mother’s family settled in the West Valley near Tolleson in 1903 while her father’s family arrived in the same area in 1916. Barbara was raised in this farming family through the Great Depression and WWII at the family homestead near Tolleson.
Barbara attended Littleton Elementary and Tolleson Union High School where she graduated Valedictorian in 1949. She went on to attend the University of Arizona where she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in business in 1954. After graduation, she worked for Arizona Public Service for 10 years and later worked as a substitute teacher in the Tempe Elementary School District.
Barbara was a member of First Christian Church of Tempe, First Families of Arizona and Arizona Christian Women’s Missionary Society. Her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family and celebrating special occasions with them. She cherished caring for her three boys and later loved snuggling with her grandbabies and great-grandbabies. She always had a smile on her face when surrounded by her family and friends!
Barbara joins her parents, brother Hedger and her husband Richard in heaven. She is survived by her three sons Rick (Susan), Jim (Diane), and Ken (Jill). She is also survived by eight grandchildren Jeffrey (Aubrey), Magen (Zach), Bobby (Katie), Andrew (Becca), Jacob (Nicole, fiancé), Hannah, Emily, and Kendall, and ten great-grandchildren Brice, Jax, Ellie, Jameson, Lyla, Kayden, Cody, James, Brooklyn and Haydee. She is also survived by her beloved dog Shaggy.
