Terry "Stretch" Joseph Verges

Terry "Stretch" Joseph Verges, age 67 passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Terry was born on June 23, 1957, in New Orleans, to the late Raymond Verges and Pearl Gruner Verges. He was the brother of Ray L. Verges, Sr. (Laurie), Donald P. Verges, Sr. (JoAnn) and Robert M. Verges (MaryLynne). He will be fondly missed by his Geeck cousins, Janice Geeck Dean (Henry), Jacqueline (Jackie) Geeck Edrington (Robert (Bobby)), Joyce Geeck Hunnicutt (Michael), and Henry A. Geeck, Jr., along with his life time friend Steve Price, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren. Terry was a native of New Orleans, a longtime resident of Chalmette, and at the time of his death he was a resident of Slidell. Terry was a friend to all he met. He participated in basketball and track at Chalmette High School as well as played basketball for Delgado College. He was a basketball coach for the St. Bernard Recreation Department for many years. Terry was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Bernard Division, and a former board member of the St. Bernard Sports Hall of Fame. Terry truly enjoyed going to the family camp in Little Woods where he loved boiling seafood, crabbing, fishing and having all his family and friends around him. His dream was to build his home on Lake Pontchartrain to live out his life and came very close to moving there this month.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation to be held at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 11:00AM - 1:00PM. A Memorial Mass will begin at 1:00PM. Inurnment will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
