Romel Eden Bennett passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the age of 76. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Linda Gagliano Bennett. Loving father of Alicia Bennett-Williams (Jason A. Heggelund) and Desiree Eden Bennett. Proud grandfather of Falyn Amber Williams. Brother of Martha Counsil (Philip Counsil), Loretta Goldman (Terry Goldman) and Jim Bennett. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many dear friends. Romel was preceded in death by his parents Lee Bennett, Leah Alicia Jackson Bennett and his brother William Bennett (Judy Bennett).
Romel dedicated his life to serving both his country and community. He served honorably as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 4th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, a service he took immense pride in throughout his life. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career with Frucon and was a dedicated member of Local No. 58 Iron Workers Union. He was also a committed member of Dominique You Lodge No. 468 Free & Accepted Masons, working under the jurisdiction of The Grand Lodge of Louisiana Free & Accepted Masons.
In his free time, Romel loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved wife, Linda, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and raised two daughters, Alicia and Desiree. One of his greatest joys was watching his granddaughter, Falyn, grow into a vibrant young lady.
Romel was an avid sports fan, especially of LSU, Saints, and Tulane football, and found peace and happiness in the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. Rest in peace, dear Romel. The love for your family, your dedication to your country, and your passion for life will be fondly remembered by all who knew you.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, December 23rd from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a service in Romel’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
