Louis P. Bertaut of Slidell passed away peacefully on July 23, 2015 surrounded by his family at 87 years young. He was preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Virgie Bertaut, sisters, Marion Boudreaux, Eula Lee Schloegel, Merle Haydel, Nell Dominique, and brother Carroll Bertaut. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Laura (Dolly) Rome-Burk Bertaut, his four children, Lorelie Bertaut, Chris Bertaut (Cheryl), Leslie Burkhardt (Paul) and Holly Dickman (Rhett). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Nick Beaubouef (Jenn), Corey Bertaut (Charlotte), Craig, Bryan, Dayna and Allen Burkhardt, and Lindsey Mercante (Michael), as well as, 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Linda Aguzin and several nieces and nephews. Louis was retired from St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lockheed Martin and was a former Merchant Marine. He was a lifetime member of Lions International, president of Chalmette Lions, member of Delta Lions, Member of AARP 5408/4420 and the St. Bernard council of Aging, and Fun for All Social Club. Louis relocated to Slidell after hurricane Katrina formerly residing in Chalmette for 54 years. He was raised in New Orleans, graduating from Francis T. Nicholls High School. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tulane Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders, Campus Mailbox TB-31, NOLA, 70112-2699 in memory of Louis Bertaut, would be appreciated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Sunday, July 26th from 5:00PM – 7:00PM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 7:00PM. Burial will be private..
