Joseph Marcel Richard Sr.

Joseph Marcel Richard Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from cancer at the age of 78. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Guerrera Richard for 48 years. Loving father of Joseph Richard Jr., Brian Joseph Richard (Natalie) and Shawn Michael Richard. Son of the late Ezora and Neville Richard Sr. He was the baby brother of Pearl DeMare, Neville Richard Jr., Grace Gaudet, Betty Desmare and his loving nanny sister Cecile Savoie. Brother-in-law of Joseph Guerrera Jr. (Debbie). Proud grandfather of Mason, Gavin and Abigail Marie Richard (Lacour).

Joseph was a native of New Orleans, LA with many nephews, nieces and cousins and dear friends who were as close as any family could be and loved each other deeply. Joseph was a member of the Electrical Local #130 I.B.E.W. Union (The Brotherhood) for over 50 years. He also enjoyed a long and respected career with the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office with the deputy core for over 18 years where he met and made many wonderful friends.

Joseph truly enjoyed life through his simple pleasures of fishing and dancing. He found pleasure in the details of everyday life and cared deeply for his family and friends. He was our pillar of courage and strength and a wonderful example of what it means to care for others.

Special thanks to Concerned Care Hospice for all their care during this time of need where he passed away at home surrounded by his wife and son Shawn. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by us all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, April 22nd from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a funeral service in Joseph’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
