Helen Elaine Bright Day rejoiced in going to her heavenly home on February 2, 2017. She is survived by her son, Ernest R. Day (Debbie) and daughter, Martine D. Sherlock (Clifford) and sister, Betty B. Serpas. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Martin Thomas Day, Jr.; son, Dennis N. Day (Kim) and daughter, Timi Helayne D. Taaffe (Eddie); and by her parents Ernest R.S. and Mabel Young Bright. Helen was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on 9/16/1933. She married on 11/17/1950 and lived in New Orleans until 1960 when they moved to St. Bernard Parish. She was her happiest when she was caring for other people, so it made sense for her to go to nursing school. She graduated as an LPN in 1975 as one of the top ten in the state of Louisiana, Besides caring for others, Helen was very talented in many areas; baking cakes, sewing, cutting hair, doll making, upholstery and painting just to name a few. Her doll making won her several awards in the Doll Guild of St Bernard Parish as well as a painting "Doll in Chair" from the St. Bernard Art Guild. Her greatest accomplishments though were her four children, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was loved and cherished by all that had the pleasure to know her. We will miss her more than she could have ever imagined. Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Visitation will be from 11:00AM till 1:00PM, followed by a service in Helen's memory beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
