Jean Stewart Goodson, age 92, a lifelong resident of Brent, Alabama passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024. Jean was a graduate of Bibb County High School and attended the University of Alabama, where she studied voice. She married John Goodson, Jr. of Brent, Alabama and spent her life dedicated to caring for her family. She was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was the pianist for over 65 years. She was a gifted musician who shared her talents graciously. Jean was also known throughout the county as an excellent vocalist.
Jean loved the Lord and was faithful in serving Him and others. Her strongest spiritual gift was encouragement. Her love, wisdom, and discernment touched the lives of her family and many friends. Jean's wit, charm, loyalty and love for beautiful things were her trademark. Her culinary and gardening skills were enjoyed by many. Her love for her family and Godly ways have made her absolutely unforgettable.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Arie Stewart; her beloved husband, John Goodson, Jr.; and son-in-law, Justice "Jay" Smyth III. She is survived by her children, Roslyn Smith (Mike) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Tanya McLemore (Curt) of Montgomery, AL; Cal Goodson of Brent, AL and Rushan Smyth Owens (Frank) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Justice Smyth (Morgan), Shanleigh Walton (Patrick), Jeff Smyth (Robin), Michael Smith (Ellie), Estes McLemore (Jessica) and Goodson McLemore; great-grandchildren, Patrick & Ann Roane Walton, Francie & Sarah Collins Smyth, Estes III, Lander & Hiott McLemore, and Rush Smyth.
A visitation for Jean will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, Highway 5, Brent, Alabama, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Rev. Scott Peters and Rev. Rueben Compere will officiate. Pallbearers are Justice Smyth, Jeff Smyth, Michael Smith, Estes McLemore, Goodson McLemore and Patrick Walton.
Jean will be laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery, Highway 5, Brent, Alabama.
